Afam Osigwe, the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, has stated that he will step up his efforts to protect human rights and the rule of law in 2025.
In his New Year’s letter to Nigerian lawyers on Wednesday, Mr. Osigwe made this statement.
“Under his leadership, the NBA will lead the way in promoting adherence to human rights and the rule of law. We will also collaborate with security agencies to promote a more fair and just society,” he said.
Although he acknowledged that the Nigerian Bar’s strength is its unity, he urged attorneys to promote cooperation, communication, and respect for one another.
“I am honored to welcome you all to a new period of boundless possibilities, introspection, thankfulness, and redoubled determination as we proudly enter the year 2025.
Additionally, increased support for human rights and the rule of law will be a defining feature of this year. We’re going to continue to be in the forefront of holding people accountable and making sure that their rights are respected.
The NBA president emphasized, “We will collaborate with stakeholders to promote a more just and equitable society while working tirelessly to address issues like police brutality, unlawful detentions, and other human rights abuses.”

The NBA’s strength is its members’ unity, so Mr. Osigwe also emphasized the importance of cooperation among the bar’s members.
“As we begin the tasks ahead, I encourage every NBA member to cultivate cooperation, communication, and respect for one another; together, we can overcome the challenges facing our profession and our country,” he continued.
Let us persist in serving as a ray of hope, honesty, and fortitude for Nigeria. I encourage everyone to join me in welcoming 2025 with bravery, tenacity, and a common goal for a better future.
