    NPFL: Magbisa optimistic Bayelsa United will bounce back from Tornadoes’ defeat

    Bayelsa United star Wisdom Magbisa has urged his teammates to put the narrow defeat to Niger Tornadoes behind them.

    The Prosperity Boys suffered a 1-0 loss to Niger Tornadoes at the Bako Kontagora Stadium om Sunday.

    The defeat was Bayelsa United’s first the season.

    Magbisa assured the club supporters that they will make up for the defeat in their next game in Yenagoa.

    “It’s football we just have to put behind the defeat and concentrate on our next game to see that we get the maximum points in Yenagoa,” Magbisa stated in a post-match interview.

    Bayelsa United will trade tackles with nine-time league champions Enyimba in their next game at the Samson Siasia stadium on Sunday.

    Nigerian Nursing Council abolishes exam failure policy

    The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, has abolished its long-standing policy that barred student nurses from continuing their training after three failed attempts at the Council’s professional examinations.

    In a circular dated September 1, 2025, and signed by the Registrar/CEO, Ndagi Alhassan, the Council announced that candidates who fail any part of the professional exam will now be allowed to retake only that section until they secure a pass.

    The new policy takes effect from September 2025.

    The circular, titled ‘Nursing Education Reforms: Elimination of Students After Three Professional Examination Attempts’, was addressed to state commissioners of health, teaching hospital directors, university vice chancellors, heads of nursing schools, and professional associations.

    According to the Council, the reform reflects its commitment to align nursing education with global best practices by shifting from an elimination-focused policy to a more supportive, student-centered approach.

    “Our mission to promote and maintain excellence in nursing and midwifery education and practice calls for a more inclusive academic environment devoted to building resilience and lifelong learning,” the statement read.

    The NMCN urged institutions to implement measures that would support struggling students, while stressing that candidates must maintain at least 80% lecture and clinical attendance to qualify for re-sits. It also directed that each failed attempt at a re-sit would count against the training institution.

    The Council said the change was necessary to ensure fairness, enhance professional competence, and address concerns raised about the previous policy.

    El-Rufai petitions PSC, alleges misconduct by Kaduna Police Commissioner, senior officers

    Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has petitioned the Police Service Commission, PSC, accusing senior officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of gross misconduct.

    In a letter dated September 8, 2025, the former governor accused the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna of abusing his office.

    El-Rufai urged the PSC to immediately launch an impartial investigation into what he described as “unlawful and unconstitutional conduct” by authorities of the Command.

    “I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command,” parts of the petition read.

    DAILY POST reports that there has been a face-off between El-Rufai and the Kaduna State Police Command.

    On August 30, 2025, the former governor and some other opposition politicians were attacked by suspected political thugs during a meeting in Kaduna.

    El-Rufai subsequently accused the police of collusion with the thugs, saying officers were watching while they were being attacked.

    Reports emerged last week, indicating that the Command has invited El-Rufai, along with six senior members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for questioning over allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief and causing grievous hurt.

    Factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, LP, Abayomi Arabambi, on Monday declared that the party has three possible names to consider as its presidential candidate in 2027.

    Arabambi said he can’t reveal the names of the individuals now because they would be kidnapped and Labour Party would have no presidential candidate in 2027.

    Featuring on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics, Arabambi disclosed that Peter Obi would not be Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2027.

    He said: “We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi, he will not have our ticket. If he likes let him be promoting Nenadi Usman.

    “We know their agenda which is to make sure that Nigeria turns to South-East and that is not going to be acceptable.

    “We have a lot of southeasterners in the administration of Tinubu, a lot in Buhari’s administration, and even Jonathan.

    “Have you ever seen any one of them moving in this way as agents of destruction?

    “It’s only the Obidient members of Obi that are giving Nigeria a hell of a problem and I wish them well in their coalition.

    “If we begin to mention names but I know we have one from the South-West, one from the South-South, and one from the South-East.

    “Our deputy candidate is a South-South and a woman with a reputation but I’m not going to mention her name.

    “We are in a discussion right now with them to know the direction that we are going but not like these political extremists like Peter Obi that we are going to fly.

    “If we mention their names, I can assure you that they are going to kidnap them because some people are just determined to kill Labour Party as we did not allow them to hijack the party for political insurrection, I know that they will go and kidnap them and we will not have a candidate, that’s why we have to keep it under the wrap.”

    Nigerian airlines to face sanctions for flight disruptions

    The Federal Government has ordered the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to sanction any airline that disrupts flights without genuine reasons.

    The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, gave the order in a statement posted on X on Monday.

    Achimugu cautioned that situations where airline staff deliberately abandon passengers and leave NCAA Consumer Protection officers to deal with angry customers would no longer be tolerated.

    “While one understands the challenges that operators face in our peculiar operating environment, whoever ventures into this business must do it well. We must not always choose the easy way out. Don’t you want to be called ‘world class’?

    “Don’t you want to compete at the highest level? If not for the sake of passengers who trust you to fly them safely, then at least for your own pride,” Achimugu said.

    According to him, exposing NCAA officials to unnecessary risk while supporting airlines and protecting passengers’ rights was unacceptable.

    “For infractions that are sanctionable, the authority will apply the fullest measures possible. We will not abandon the letters of our regulations.

    “The Federal Government has instructed that airlines be named and shamed by the NCAA. While not all disruptions are the fault of airlines, operators must comply with the regulations whenever there is a disruption,” he added.

    Achimugu confirmed that, in line with directives from the Federal Government and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the “naming and shaming” of erring airlines will commence immediately.

    Gunmen kill 7 miners, injure 3 in Plateau community

    Seven miners were reportedly killed, and three others injured, when gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias stormed a mining site in Wang community of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

    The incident, according to eyewitnesses, occurred on Saturday night when the attackers stormed the site while the victims were engaged in mining activities, and opened fire of them.

    A youth leader in the Wang community, Christopher Luka, who confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday, said the attack would not have occured if the miners heeded to warnings against night mining.

    He stated that security agencies had issued a warning to people to stop going to the mining site due to threats but the deceased refused to adhere to the warning.

    Luka also noted that the recently inaugurated Agro Rangers had issued several warning that the
    people should put a stop to the mining activities but they refused and have continued to sneak to the mining sites in the night when security operatives had left.

    Two survivors, Shanono Usman Adam and Maren Moses, who also confirmed the development, explained that the deceased were busy at the mining site when gunmen invaded the site and opened fire on them.

    According to them, the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at Bokkos General Hospital.

    Barring any last-minute resolution, the paramount ruler of the Igede people, CP (Rtd.) Oga Ero, Adirahu Ny’Igede, risks suspension by the Idoma Area Traditional Council, IATC, over alleged acts of disrespect toward the Och’Idoma institution.

    DAILY POST gathered that the dispute erupted after Oga Ero bestowed chieftaincy titles during the recently concluded Igede Agba cultural festival.

    The IATC maintains the action was taken without the consent of its chairman, the Och’Idoma, HRM Agabaidu Elaigwu Odogbo John.

    The Council subsequently nullified the titles, invoking the Benue State Chieftaincy Law of 2016 (as amended), Part II, Section 7(d), which vests ultimate traditional authority in the IATC across Benue South.

    In a statement, the body declared: “Such conferments are null, void, and of no legal, customary, or traditional effect. The Idoma Area Traditional Council remains the only legally recognized traditional authority of the Idoma nation, and any contrary action violates the law.”

    Despite being served with a formal query, Oga Ero is yet to issue a reply or render an apology to the Och’Idoma, palace insiders disclosed.

    A source further revealed that the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has been alerted, stressing that suspension remains likely if the monarch fails to give a convincing explanation.

    “This hasn’t reached dethronement level. It’s a minor misunderstanding that could be settled, but it’s being exaggerated,” the source added.

    The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday took up a case instituted by the Osun State Government against the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Accountant-General of the Federation, AGF, over alleged plans to divert local government allocations.

    The matter, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, saw appearances entered by legal representatives of the parties involved.

    At the heart of the dispute is the disbursement of local government funds in Osun State. The state government accused the CBN and the AGF of attempting to channel statutory allocations into private accounts allegedly operated by people impersonating government officials.

    According to Osun State, such an action would constitute a flagrant breach of public finance laws and provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. It contended that bypassing designated accounting officers would compromise transparency and accountability in public fund management.

    The government also warned that the alleged plan directly undermines ongoing legal proceedings before the Supreme Court, which is currently reviewing issues tied to the administration of local government finances in the state.

    The case arises from a prolonged political and legal tussle between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led state government and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, following conflicting court judgments over the validity of the October 2022 local government elections.

    The court has yet to make a ruling as proceedings continue.

    Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has opened up on decision to stay away from church services for more than 10 years, revealing that the move was driven by personal experiences that clashed with his career and peace of mind.

    Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the actor recalled that the turning point came in 2013 when a pastor at his former church instructed him to stop accepting acting jobs scheduled on Sundays.

    Solade said the directive left him uncomfortable, as it directly interfered with his profession and livelihood.

    He explained that the situation made him reevaluate the balance between faith and personal life, ultimately leading him to step back from regular church attendance.

    “If you see me in a church, it’s probably because we’re filming. Back in 2013, I went to church with my wife, and the pastor told me not to take jobs on Sundays. That same work he wanted me to avoid is what puts money in my pocket and allows me to give offerings. That was when I decided to stop,” he said.

    Solade dismissed the widely held notion that life would take a downturn without church attendance, stressing that his life has remained stable and even more peaceful since he stopped.

    According to him, he has been able to focus better on his family and acting career without the constant pressure of church committees and programs that often consumed his time.

    “A notion that if you don’t attend church, one’s life will nosedive, I have not seen anything change. Rather, I have peace, I do well, because everyday of my life when I was going to church, I got messages, all sorts of disturbances,” he added.

    The actor emphasized that his choice was not a rejection of faith but a conscious decision to avoid unhealthy pressures that hinder personal growth and productivity.

    Peter Obi: Obidient Movement clears air on El-Rufai’s visit to Imo

    The Obidient Movement in Imo State has refuted reports linking its leader, Peter Obi, to Nasir El-Rufai’s recent visit to the state.

    In a statement signed by Anukanti Vigilius Chukwuka, Coordinator, Obidient Movement, Imo State chapter, the association said Peter Obi was not even the gathering.

    El Rufai was in Imo State at the weekend where he attended the Odenigbo Lecture, a cultural intellectual event organised annually by the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri.

    The Obidient Movement said it observed that there have been numerous misconceptions being attached to El-Eufai’s visit to Imo State.

    The Movement added that it had observed reports linking its leader to the visit, with some claiming that it was Obi who invited El-Rufai.

    “The day preceding the public lecture an illustrious son of Imo State, Hon. Nnaemeka Madagwu, a former Speaker of Imo State Assembly during the reign of Achike Udenwa, hosted EL Rufai who was his boss and who appointed him Transport Secretary when El Rufai was the FCT Minister,” the group’s statement said.

    “Peter Obi was not even at this year’s lecture even though he attended previous ones when he was Governor, but the mischief makers are everywhere dragging Obi’s name as the man who invited El Rufai.

    “Obi honoured the invitation to the dinner in honour of El Rufai, his colleague in the Coalition, because he saw it as a good Igbo spirit of not forgetting our benefactors.

    “Our Principal is desirous to create a new Nigeria, that is POssible, and is willing to do it with all well-meaning Nigerians.”
