The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been accused by the Obidient Movement of conspiring to thwart Peter Obi’s presidential aspirations.
At a news conference in Kano on Saturday, Yunusa Tanko, the group’s national coordinator, made the assertion.
He claimed that “orchestrated crisis and institutional interference” are ongoing attempts to deny Obi a political platform for the January 2027 presidential election.
Tanko claimed that the purported scheme started following the 2023 elections and charged that the ruling party was inciting internal conflicts within the Labour Party in order to erode Obi’s support base.
In addition, he claimed that the Supreme Court’s April 2025 decision about the party’s leadership was compromised by later decisions made by subordinate courts.
The organization pointed out that after a protracted internal conflict, Obi finally left the Labour Party on December 31, 2025, and subsequently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The organization claimed that political tensions were increased by Obi’s participation in the ADC and his interactions with political personalities, like as former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Tanko also connected recent events to what it called attempts to undermine opposition movements, such as the alleged delisting of ADC leadership after an Appeal Court verdict.
“The trend is a blatant scheme to undermine democracy, impose a one-party system, and deny Nigerians credible choices,” he declared.
The group urged pertinent parties, such as the court and election bodies, to protect democratic values and provide fair competition for all contenders.
It cautioned that any effort to keep opposition leaders out of the election process would erode public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.
In advance of the 2027 elections, the movement called on Nigerians, especially women and young people, to stay alert and dedicated to democratic principles.
