Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has stated that he has no favored successor ahead of the 2027 election, maintaining that the democratic will of the populace should determine the state’s next leader.

Zulum reportedly made the statement late on Sunday at a meeting of All Progressives Congress stakeholders at Government House in Maiduguri.

Speaking to party leaders, elected officials, and members, the governor stated that he did not have a nominee for any position and that he was unsure of his successor should the APC win the governorship in 2027.

“I don’t know who will take over for me, and I have no candidates for any positions. Zulum said, “I have given Almighty Allah the authority to select leaders in accordance with the democratic will of the party members and the people of Borno State.”

The governor emphasized that he was still dedicated to the APC’s principles, pointing out that the upcoming party congresses must be guided by justice, fairness, and openness.

He claims that preserving party unity and ensuring the APC’s future success in the state depend heavily on the process’s integrity.

Zulum cautioned against imposition, claiming that any effort to control the process could undermine public trust and harm the party.

The governor urged stakeholders to permit new individuals to assume leadership roles inside the party and fervently supported the emergence of a new generation of party officials.

He claimed that an open and inclusive procedure would improve internal democracy throughout the state and fortify the APC’s grassroots organization.

In order to create a more powerful and cohesive APC in Borno, Zulum urged party members to set aside their own interests.
