After fending off an assault on a military installation in Bita, located within Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, troops from Niger killed no fewer than 60 terrorists.

This was revealed by the Nigeria Army in a post on X Friday morning.

“In the early hours of today, brave soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai executed a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State, in a decisive and coordinated operation. “The fierce fighting led to at least 60 terrorists being neutralized,” the army reported.

Reports indicate that the suspected Boko Haram fighters surrounded the soldiers of the 26 Task Force Brigade of Sector One at midnight on Friday.

“The troops, receiving immediate assistance from air platforms, confronted the assailants in a drawn-out exchange of gunfire that continued until around 3:23 a.m,” noted Makama Zagazola, a local publication focused on insurgency in the North-east

The troops received additional support through air raids, enabling the repulsion of the attack.

This week alone, terrorists have made two attempts to target military bases in Borno. Neither attempt was successful. In the past few weeks, though, terrorists have launched assaults on over three military installations in different areas of Borno. This has compelled the military to pull back and rethink their strategy.
