Team Lagos have emerged winners of the female football event in the ongoing 9th edition of the National Youth Games, NYG, holding in Asaba, Delta State.

The Lagos female team defeated Team Delta 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in regulation time.

Lagos came from a goal down to level the score at the end of 90 minutes.

Captain of Team Lagos, Rogert, described the outcome of the match as more than a victory.

She said, “We have been coming to Delta to win gold medal in the female football event in the National Youth Games. This is more than a victory for me and my team members.”

Conversely, Team Delta captain, Anastasia, in tears, attributed their loss in the penalty shootout to a technical error.

She stated, “My side lost due to some silly mistake from our defence but I return all the glory to God.”

Meanwhile, it was jubilation for Team Delta in the Judo 40kg girls’ category, as Precious Daniel won gold. Blessing Chukwuengozi of Team Abia clinched silver, while Annabel Iyalekhue of Edo State and Mayor Izibeklen of Bayelsa State settled for bronze.
