Following the dissemination of a leaked Department of State Services (DSS) document alerting citizens to a potential attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on certain towns in the state, the Ondo State government has encouraged citizens to maintain composure and not panic.

According to reports, the DSS note expressed worries about a possible danger from the terrorist organization and was sent to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure.

The administration has, however, allayed citizens’ concerns about impending danger by promising that preventive measures are being done to protect people and property.

Idowu Ajanaku, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, stated in a statement released in Akure on Wednesday (today) that the leaked letter was a component of “regular intelligence reports” that are regularly exchanged among security services to improve coordination and vigilance.

“The State Security Services recently sent a security alert memo to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure about a potential terrorist attack in certain areas of the state, which was leaked to the media. The Government of Ondo State is aware of this,” the statement said.

These reports, which are intended to detect and stop possible attacks, are a standard component of security operations. Security agencies utilize these intelligence reports in cooperative operations to increase alertness and take preventative action. They frequently include several degrees of danger assessment.

Residents were reassured by Ajanaku that the government was already collaborating closely with the military, the DSS, and other security organizations to stop attacks of any kind, especially in border regions.

According to the commissioner, the government of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is still totally dedicated to making sure Ondo maintains its standing as one of the safest states in the nation.

“The government of Ondo State, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, maintains continuous communication with security agencies and is taking various measures to safeguard citizens, particularly those residing in border communities,” Ajanaku stated.

“The public can be confident that the government and pertinent security agencies are taking appropriate action in response to these reports, and that the necessary safety and security measures are being implemented.”

In order to identify and eliminate possible threats before they materialize, he continued, the focus is still on preserving vigilance, intelligence sharing, and collaboration between security services and the government.

Residents Are Encouraged to Remain Calm and Watchful
Residents were urged by the authorities to carry on with their regular activities, maintain composure, and refrain from spreading false information or panic.

The commissioner said, “We encourage residents to go about their daily lives without fear, but to be alert and report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest security agency.”

“In order to maintain the peace in the state, citizens should cooperate with the authorities rather than enforcing laws themselves.”

Ajanaku reaffirmed that everything was under control and that there was no reason to be alarmed, adding that the government’s main goal is to keep the state peaceful and stable.

According to Naija News, the DSS letter that leaked earlier this week warned of a potential ISWAP fighter conspiracy to infiltrate and launch coordinated attacks on specific areas in Ondo State.

Although locals were alarmed by the security notice, state officials and security personnel have since stepped up surveillance and strengthened border communities as a precaution.

Officials maintain that the leak emphasizes the continued cooperation between intelligence and defense organizations in anticipating terror threats rather than a breach in security procedures.
