Recalling how his administration dealt with the state’s instability, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi claims that his background puts him ahead of other candidates vying for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket in the 2027 election.
In a video clip posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, Amaechi claimed that violent crimes had destroyed the state capital, Port Harcourt, prior to his government’s takeover.
“I was the governor of a state where people were being abducted and killed.” He claimed that because of the rise in robberies, many in Port Harcourt were unable to leave their homes.
According to reports, the former governor described how his government quickly returned things to normal and boosted the state’s social and economic life.
Hospitals were in trouble, and parties weren’t happening. Men only had their wives to amuse them, but six months after we arrived, we drove the criminals out. Amaechi stated, “We asked people to do whatever they wanted to do and called them back to work and parties.”
Amaechi emphasized that his track record in Rivers State has equipped him for leadership at the national level, claiming that he is accustomed to the difficulties Nigeria is currently facing.
He said, “Therefore, I am the only candidate for the party who has served in a state where we are currently facing issues in addition to having experience.”
As he competes for the ADC presidential ticket, the former governor insisted that his hands-on experience in crisis management provides him an advantage.
