Human rights advocate and SaharaReporters publisher Omoyele Sowore has been granted bail by a Kuje, Abuja, Magistrate Court.

According to reports, the court also granted bail to a number of demonstrators who were detained during the Federal Capital Territory’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration.

Aloy Ejimakor, the attorney for Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB); Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his brother; and eleven other people are also involved.

The defendants were arraigned on charges pertaining to unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace, and the court, presided over by Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’I, gave the bail order on Friday.

Sowore and the other demonstrators were given ₦500,000 bail apiece by the court, with the requirement that they provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN).

As part of the bail requirements, the magistrate also ordered the defendants to surrender their passports and three-year tax clearance certificates.
