Lagos Hosts Delegates of RABAT Meeting to a Night of Culture, Diplomacy

As part of the 2-day Joint Thematic Meeting of the Rabat, Khartoum, and Niamey Processes, the Lagos State government hosted delegates across the regions to a Cultural Night at the JK Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Onikan, Lagos, a celebration of Lagos’s cultural identity and heritage.
Welcoming guests to the cultural soirée, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, described the gathering as a celebration of identity and diplomacy through art.
She emphasised the unifying power of culture in fostering understanding and collaboration across borders, noting that sustained partnerships that connect governance, humanitarian action, and cultural exchange are instrumental in the fight against all forms of exploitation that undermine human dignity.
The evening opened with a traditional welcome dance performance for the delegates, setting an atmosphere of warmth and cultural pride before embarking on a guided cultural and historical tour of the iconic John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, where they explored the rich tapestry of Lagos’ heritage before settling in for the evening’s main presentations.
The night’s performances included a captivating Ewi rendition and a soul-stirring spoken word session, both artfully expressing themes of unity, resilience, and the shared humanity that binds nations together.
Closing the evening was a vibrant live band performance that filled the air with rhythmic beats and melodious tunes, an uplifting finale that showcased Lagos’ artistic richness, creative vitality, and timeless spirit of hospitality.
The cultural night was graced by the representative of the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlede; the Body of Permanent Secretaries; members of the diplomatic community; representatives of anti-trafficking agencies; and other distinguished guests.
