Nigeria has what it takes to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who insists that the players are traveling to Morocco not only to compete but also to bring home the title.
The competition is set to happen in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, according to reports.
Nwabali, who gained notoriety for his exceptional exploits at the 2023 AFCON in the Ivory Coast, feels that the team has become stronger and more focused as a result of their experience making it to the final last year.
Nwabali stated, “AFCON is one of the biggest tournaments in the world, not just in Africa,” in a SuperSport TV interview.
As a large country, we are always expected to succeed rather than merely take part. Having been in the final the previous year, I think we will prevail this year.
After winning the AFCON trophy in 1980 and 1994, the Super Eagles last did so in 2013 under the late Stephen Keshi.
In a tight final that left supporters devastated, Nigeria lost 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast despite coming close once more last year.
Nwabali’s bravery in the competition made him a fan favorite, but his current performance has caused followers to disagree.
During the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Chippa United goalie has come under fire for mistakes and time-wasting strategies that resulted in needless bookings.
The 28-year-old is still optimistic and has a broad perspective. Nigeria must advance through the African playoffs prior to the AFCON in order to be eligible for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
It is anticipated that head coach Eric Chelle would shortly reveal his team for the pivotal postseason games. Maduka Okoye of Udinese, who is making her long-awaited return to the national squad, is expected to present Nwabali with fierce challenge.
