Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, stated on Saturday that President Bola Tinubu is extremely disturbed by the ongoing killings in Plateau State and throughout Nigeria, stating that the violence has caused suffering for both the government and the country.
Speaking at the official reception of political defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State at Jos Polo Field, Akpabio stated that the President is committed to reestablishing peace and guaranteeing the safety of locals.
Speaking on behalf of Tinubu at the function, Akpabio declared, “I cry whenever I hear the killing of a human being, whether a child or an adult.”
“We are unhappy because a lot of blood has been spilled. Nigeria’s president is also unhappy.
Akpabio emphasized that Nigerians must work together to establish enduring peace rather than relying on outside intervention.
“Peace won’t come from people outside.” We are the ones who have to establish peace. We have to coexist peacefully. For Nigeria to advance, there must be peace, he said.
Residents of the Plateau were reassured by the Senate President that the President has instructed the federal government to step up efforts to put an end to violence in the state.
He declared, “Let me reassure the people of Plateau State that your concerns will be addressed.”
Akpabio said that many of the international reports being mentioned today are based on events that occurred more than ten years ago, and he linked much of the current insecurity to prior rounds of violence.
It all began in 2010. The majority of the reports that are being used globally that you are hearing about were created in 2010. “I was a governor at the time, and I am aware of how many people were killed everywhere,” he remarked.
The government is dedicated to reverse the trend, he said, even though the extent of the fatalities, displacement, and destruction cannot be disputed.
