Days after terrorists kidnapped 26 schoolgirls from the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, troops who were formerly stationed there are currently being questioned at Defence Headquarters.
Punch was informed by a top government official with knowledge of the investigation that the military command had started looking into why soldiers had abruptly left the school just prior to the attack.
It is known that on November 17, terrorists broke into the school and killed Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku before taking 26 pupils with them.
There are now only 24 females remaining in the jungles after two of the kidnapped girls managed to free themselves from their kidnappers.
In response to the kidnapping, Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State, demanded an investigation into the military personnel’s abrupt departure from the school.
The governor stated that Kebbi had previously provided the military authorities with reliable security warnings, including signals predicting the possibility of an attack on the school, following a private meeting in Jos with the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle.
He questioned why security personnel had been withdrawn just before the incident, claiming that they had been deployed in reaction to the intelligence.
According to the senior government source who talked with Punch, Kebbi is awaiting the results of the military inquiry into the identity of the individual who gave the order for the staff to leave the school grounds prior to the attack.
“The military personnel stationed at the school have been summoned to Abuja for questioning,” he declared. On Monday, the Defense Headquarters called them. We are keeping up with the case.
The soldiers were from the Army Barracks in Zuru, the spokesman stated.
The personnel had been called to the Defence Headquarters, according to a reliable security source.
“I don’t have all the information, but I found out on Monday from army colleagues that the soldiers had reported to headquarters.” The events in Kebbi and Niger have satisfied all of the security chiefs. The cops and the army both performed poorly. However, the inquiry is still ongoing,” he stated.
The probe is still ongoing, according to a senior military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk.
“Everyone connected to the school will be questioned in order to ascertain what went wrong, and the military authority is looking into the problem. “Anyone found guilty will undoubtedly be held accountable,” he declared.
