President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday administered the oath of office to the new Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Aminu Yusuf, alongside two commissioners and five permanent secretaries.

The cabinet was present at the ceremony, which took place during the first part of the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Following formal permissions, including confirmation by the Nigerian Senate on October 22, 2025, Yusuf was ascended. The Senate endorsed the chairman from Niger State to oversee the National Population Commission.

Also confirmed and sworn in were Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonga Betara Bularafa from Yobe State as commissioners of the NPC.

The President also gave the oath to five newly appointed permanent secretaries, Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Dr John Ezeamama, Dr Abdul-Sule Garba, Dr Isiaku Mohammed and Dr Ukaire Chigbowu.

In October, the Council of State meeting supported Yusuf’s appointment as NPC Chairman.

He now takes over from Nasir Isa Kwara, who was appointed in 2020 under the then-President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

In other news, Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board by Tinubu.

It was stated that the appointment was announced on Tuesday through a statement made by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed.

The Board’s efforts to modernize and sanitize pension administration for retired officers and their families have been greatly aided by Abdulraheem’s return, according to the statement.

“The Military Pensions Board wishes to formally announce the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem as the new Chairman. His assumption of office marks a critical milestone in the Board’s effort toward better efficiency, openness, and improved service delivery for military retirees and their families,” the statement read.
