Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s adviser, Bashir Ahmad, sparked controversy on Thursday when he claimed that although Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, is a fine man, those close to him will not let him realize his goal.
Ahmad said in a post on his X account that if Obi’s followers truly wanted him to win, they ought to suggest that he give up the 2027 presidential contest in favor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ahmad stated, “Peter is a good person, but the people around him will never allow him to achieve his dream.”
He denounced what he called “reckless content” that Obi’s associates posted on social media, claiming that their actions may be a reflection of even more concerning private counsel.
“One can only imagine the kind of things you tell him privately with this reckless content you post publicly,” he continued.
“Tell him to make sacrifices today so that others can make sacrifices for him tomorrow if you truly want him to succeed. Ahmad wrote, “Tell him to join us; let President Tinubu finish his mandate in 2031, and then the future remains open for everyone.”
His remarks coincide with plans by prominent politicians, such as Peter Obi and former vice president Atiku Abubakar, to prevent Tinubu from serving a second term.
