The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has demanded that Ahmed Farouk, the former managing director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), be investigated for alleged corruption.
According to reports, Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, accused Farouk of corruption and economic sabotage, which led to his recent resignation.
Dangote claimed that Farouk had used millions of dollars in “taxpayers'” money to pay for his children’s secondary school education in Switzerland.
After a quick meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Farouk submitted his resignation.
Despite Ahmed’s resignation, the NBA President responded to the news in an appearance on Channels Television by saying that an inquiry is still required.
He contended that either a thorough inquiry would be the best course of action, or the accusation would be interpreted as a plot to remove the former head of NMDPRA.
“It will be unfair for me to take sides with any of the sides,” stated Osigwe.
“Public authorities and the administration are now embarrassed by the situation. According to the ICPC, they would look into the claim. Don’t let it happen that someone was fired due to these accusations.
“Let there be a thorough investigation to either clear the man’s name or prove that he was corrupt or guilty of the accusations made against him.”
