“Delta State in Shock: Young Father-to-Be Killed on Christmas Night in Kwale”

By Naomi Onome

Tragedy marred Christmas celebrations in Delta State’s Kwale community as a 32-year-old man, Amauche Lucky Ezeji, was gunned down by an unidentified assailant on Christmas Day, leaving his family shattered and the community in fear.

The fatal shooting occurred around 8 pm on Askaka road, despite the Delta Police Command’s assurance of enhanced security measures during the festive period.

The deceased, Amauche Lucky Ezeji, had just dropped his pregnant wife at his grandmother’s house for the Christmas celebration when the incident occurred.

According to his mother, Chinyere Emeagi, Amauche received a call while at his grandmother’s, prompting him to rush out, and that’s when the shooting happened. “He was shot in the chest at a close range,” Chinyere revealed, adding that the killer escaped as people panicked, leaving Amauche in a pool of blood.

Efforts to save Amauche’s life were futile as he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The murder has plunged his family into mourning, with his community gripped by fear and unease. The Delta Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing, but so far, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Amauche happens to be the only child of both parents until his death; he was also suppose to bury his late father on January 7th, 2026 before he was murdered.

The tragic incident has sparked concerns about security in the area, with residents questioning the effectiveness of the police’s safety assurances. Amauche’s killing is a stark reminder of the vulnerability of lives, even during festive periods meant to be filled with joy and peace. As the community buries one of its own, there’s a growing clout for justice and answers on who perpetrated this heinous crime.
