Kayode, 46, was reportedly charged on Friday in front of a Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluseyi Babaseyi, made the announcement in a succinct statement.
The police official stated that the court postponed the case to January 20, 2026, for additional proceedings.
Nevertheless, neither the precise accusations preferred against the offender nor any other information regarding the accident’s circumstances were revealed by the authorities.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), 46, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, January 2, 2026, and the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026,” the statement stated.
Two members of Joshua’s squad were killed in the horrific incident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and the police response came after the driver had been arrested earlier.
Earlier, Babaseyi had verified the arrest and stated that the inquiry was still under progress.
In relation to the Anthony Joshua accident case, the driver of the Lexus SUV is presently detained. “Investigations are still going on,” he said.
