A Qatar Airways plane carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members had to make an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday due to a mechanical issue.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said in a statement that the aircraft experienced a malfunction while in Nigerian airspace, requiring the emergency landing.
LASEMA clarified that a distress call was received over its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines. The LASEMA Response Team, LRT, verified that the aircraft was in distress as soon as they arrived at the scene.
“With the LASEMA Response Team and other emergency responders on high alert on the runway, the pilot made a safe landing at Murtala Mohammed International Airport.”
The multi-agency response worked together in a coordinated manner. The aircraft was transported to the apron for a thorough inspection and timely repairs following a thorough inspection by the pilot and the engineering team.
According to the statement, “all passengers of the distressed airplane were evacuated safely; no injuries reported, no lives lost.”
The agency observed that there was no significant damage to the aircraft despite the technical problem and the emergency landing.
“The plane is safely parked on the apron. “Recovery efforts have been finished,” the statement continued.
