The results of the 2025 External Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) were made public by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
At NECO’s offices in Minna, Niger State, on Monday, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the council’s registrar, reportedly made the announcement.
According to Wushishi, 96,979 applicants nationwide registered for the test, which included 16 disciplines.
The Registrar reports that 95,160 candidates ultimately took the test.
He stated that 45,156 women, or 46.56 percent, and 51,823 men, or 53.43 percent, made up the registered candidates.
According to Wushishi’s performance breakdown, 73,167 candidates, or 78.32% of the 93,425 candidates who took the English Language exam, received credit or above.
Likewise, he said that out of 93,330 applicants, 85,256 (91.35 percent) obtained credit or higher in mathematics.
The Registrar also revealed that 68,166 candidates, or 71.63 percent, had earned five credits or more, including math and English language.
Regardless of English language and math, he continued, 82,082 candidates, or 86.26 percent, had five credits or more.
Wushishi, however, voiced alarm over the rise in exam misconduct that was observed during the check.
In comparison to the 6,160 incidents registered during the 2024 external SSCE, he claims that 9,016 applicants were booked for various sorts of misconduct, a 31.7% rise.
Five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for encouraging and facilitating examination misconduct, the Registrar reported.
According to him, two supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory and one from each of the states of Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo were among those impacted.
Wushishi also said that after being found guilty of whole-center misconduct, four testing centers were suggested for de-recognition.
He stated that Yobe and Kano states had one center each, and Niger State had two.
The Registrar reaffirmed NECO’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of its exams and cautioned that the council will keep enforcing the proper penalties to discourage malpractice.
