2027 Polls: Serving and Ex-LG Councillors to Drum Up Support for Tinubu

A group of current and past Nigerian local government council members has supported President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection.

At a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the forum made the announcement and promised to rally Nigerians, especially those at the grassroots level, for Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

The lawmakers cited the Tinubu administration’s efforts to support local government autonomy and other important changes as reasons to back him for a second term.

Speaking on behalf of the current and previous local council legislators, Dr. Evoh Ugochukwu, President of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, stated that since Tinubu took office as President in 2023, Nigeria has seen forward-thinking leadership.

The restoration of local government autonomy, increased grassroots funding and accountability, a renewed emphasis on rural development, the growth of social investment programs, significant investments in infrastructure and security, and strategic changes in economic management and agriculture have all occurred under his administration.

“These policies go beyond simple assurances. According to Evoh, “these are realities that are changing lives in our communities.”

He claims that across Nigeria’s towns, villages, and wards, the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is now more than just a catchphrase.

“The current and former local council legislators recognized the efforts of the Tinubu administration to strengthen national security through modernization of the Armed Forces, improved intelligence and technology integration, improved manpower and welfare for security personnel, and decisive leadership in tackling terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping,” Evoh continued.

Evoh, the council member for Enenaezeraku Ward in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, stated, “These interventions have brought renewed confidence to our people and created safer environments for economic and social activities.”

From the 774 local government units across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 8,809 council members make up the Nigerian National Councillors Forum.

Evoh expressed the council members’ collective stance by saying, “As grassroots leaders, we have extensively consulted with our members across the nation.”
We have given our communities’ voices attention.

The performance of this administration has been assessed. We have unanimously come to a clear determination based on the facts, data, and the actual situation on the ground.

“Therefore, I hereby formally declare our complete, unwavering, and unconditional support for His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 on behalf of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, 8,809 council members, 176,836 polling places, and millions of grassroots supporters.”

Evoh stated that the local council legislators think Tinubu has shown bravery, skill, and dedication, and they believe he has set a solid basis for the country’s success.

Evoh announced a statewide campaign for Tinubu’s reelection and urged all current and former council members, ward coordinators and leaders, grassroots activists, and community members to join the effort.

“We need to educate, organize, and mobilize our people. He emphasized, “We have to deliver this message to every polling station, ward, and home.

Chief Okorie Ikechukwu Raphael, National Coordinator of the Citizens Network for Peace and Development, and Hyacinth Horvel Turnoe, National Coordinator of the ST/HT Grassroots Coordinators of Development, both signed Evoh’s speech.
