Sumner Sambo, Arise Television’s news director, has called for more opposition figures to participate in the demonstration against the Electoral Act revision.
In an interview that was aired on Monday on “Prime Time,” Sambo stated that the demonstration should not be staged in the same way as Peter Obi, the previous presidential candidate for the Labour Party.
Recall that Obi participated in the “Occupy National Assembly” demonstration on Monday in protest of the Senate’s decision to reject the e-transmission of election results.
“If you look at what they are doing, it’s akin to what actually happened prior to 2014 and close to 2015 when you have people like Buhari, El-Rufai, and all of that on the back of vehicles going around to actually kick against some of the things that the PDP was doing while in power then,” Sambo reacted.
And I have no doubt that President Tinubu would have joined the team if he were now in the opposition. In other words, whatever they accomplished today was truly expected of them.
“I anticipated the emergence of more opposition figures. They shouldn’t limit it to Peter Obi alone.
“Where was Atiku? More opposition leaders ought to have come out. Are they merely lip-reading it because the public wants it, or are they actually serious about this?
“But the opposition should really wake up and do more because I can tell you that this government wouldn’t have been sleeping well by now if these guys who are in government now were in the opposition.”
