In an effort to stabilize the state’s governance, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara allegedly sent a list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for review and approval.

Business Day was informed by a source close to the governor that the list was sent to the House on Friday, just a few days after Fubara dismissed all Special Advisers and disbanded the State Executive Council.

Many people believe that the development is a component of the recent truce that President Bola Tinubu mediated between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The source claims that after the state was rocked by a political crisis, the Supreme Court acknowledged Speaker Martin Amaewhule’s leadership, and the list was presented to the Assembly under his direction.

In the days ahead, it is anticipated that the parliamentarians will begin the screening and confirmation procedure.

“In the spirit of reconciliation, some nominees may come from Wike’s political camp,” the insider continued.

Fubara had been working with just eight commissioners prior to the cabinet’s dismissal because of the lengthy political impasse with the Assembly.

Additionally, there are hints that the governor would name a new chief of staff as part of President Tinubu’s larger attempts to promote peace.

Fubara is also anticipated to put the recently built House of Assembly Complex into service as part of the peace process, allowing MPs to move out of their temporary accommodations.

The source claims that the governor has already forwarded the House of Assembly the names of the commissioner-nominees. The speaker has to invite them for a screening immediately. Some names may originate from Nyesom Wike’s camp, the Federal Capital Territory’s minister, in the interest of reconciliation. Well-performing commissioners might also be reappointed.

“The governor’s house complex will soon be put into service, and lawmakers will relocate from their temporary quarters to the new building.”

The commissioning of the complex is seen as a practical and symbolic step in strengthening the truce between the Assembly, led by Amaewhule, and the governor.

Neither the governor’s chief press secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, nor the Rivers State House of Assembly had formally acknowledged the submission of the nomination list as of the time this article was filed.

It is anticipated that the list would be released to the public after the Assembly starts the screening procedure.
