As Christians and Muslims in Nigeria begin the somber events of Lent and Ramadan, which coincidentally start on the same day this year, President Bola Tinubu has sent them warm congratulations.
President Tinubu stated in a message that the coming together of the two holy times serves as a reminder of Nigerians’ unity and common values, stressing that both religions are based on the ideas of commitment, selflessness, and love for one another.
The president asked Nigerians to pray for the country’s advancement and security during Lent and Ramadan and to use these times to advance peace, unity, and stability. He urged people to follow the precepts of their religions, encouraging moral behavior toward God and other people as well as good neighborliness.
According to President Tinubu, “Lent and Ramadan are opportunities for spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and service to humanity.” “Let’s strive for a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria by living up to the principles of our faiths.”

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has also sent heartfelt greetings to Nigerian Muslims and Christians as they begin Ramadan and Lent, respectively.
Atiku, who is also the Waziri Adamawa, recognized in a statement that Ramadan had begun when the Sultan of Sokoto said that he had spotted the moon. He exhorted Muslims to take advantage of the holy month to practice piety, worship, sacrifice, and good acts.
According to Atiku, the fact that Ramadan and Lent both start on the same day serves as a nice reminder of the kindness and selflessness that are inherent to all religions. He described the unique convergence of the two events as a potent message to the country, noting that the fact that Ramadan and Lent are starting on the same day is both deeply instructional and richly symbolic. “Regardless of religious affiliation, it is a divine reminder that Nigerians are one people, brothers and sisters bound by a shared destiny, and that peaceful coexistence is not optional but essential to national progress and stability,” he said.
Both Ramadan and Lent, according to Professor Yilwatda, place a strong focus on virtues like self-control, empathy, humility, love for one another, and service to others.
He exhorted Nigerians to let these common values guide their daily encounters and fortify the ties that bind Christians and Muslims together, eliminating any possibility of mistrust, animosity, or division.
“I call on all Nigerians to use this sacred time to pray fervently for our country and for the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as it undertakes far-reaching reforms aimed at stabilizing and repositioning our economy and society at this critical moment in our national journey,” the APC Chairman stated.
“These reforms will land safely and produce long-lasting solutions to our economic and social challenges if we pray fervently, have patience, and sacrifice as a group.”
Yilwatda expressed hope that the season will strengthen Nigeria’s shared commitment to peace, unity, and national progress, as well as restore people’s trust and hope.
