Due to his alleged persistent failure to accept invitations to appear before the Senate Committee on Finance, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), has been the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the committee.
The order was issued on Thursday while the Federal Ministry of Finance and its agencies were participating in a budget defense session.
Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, accused the head of the CAC of consistently ignoring legislative summonses and neglecting to account for matters concerning the commission’s earnings.
Musa claimed, “The Registrar General has repeatedly refused to honor invitations and summonses by this committee.”
In addition, he claimed that the committee still had unanswered questions about the reconciliation of CAC revenues.
The chairman said, “We have problems with the CAC’s revenue reconciliation, but every time we called him, he would send a junior officer.”
The issue was initially brought up by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who requested the committee to suggest to President Bola Tinubu that Magaji be removed from office.
Kalu maintained that disregarding legislative supervision compromises the National Assembly’s authority and responsibility.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, another committee member, suggested that the 2026 Appropriations Act should not approve any budgetary funding for the CAC until the Registrar-General personally addresses the legislators.
A further recommendation made by Oshiomhole was to prevent the commission from using its own funds without first obtaining National Assembly consent.
Following compliance, the committee approved the plan to limit the CAC’s access to its internally generated cash.
The move highlights the escalating conflict between the legislative branch and important government organizations regarding financial responsibility and adherence to oversight duties.
