Ezekiel Dachomo, a well-known clergyman from Plateau State, has disclosed that he received refuge offers from several international nations following purported threats against his life by Islamist militants.
According to a source, Dachomo, the regional chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations in Plateau State’s Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, stated that the offers came from Austria, Australia, and other European nations.
In an interview on Wednesday, the cleric stated that the offers were made during a period when he was frequently threatened with murder.
He added that due of his vocal stance against atrocities on Christians in the state, there were rumors that radicals had put a price on his head.
He claims he turned down the chance to move overseas despite the risk because he feels his place is in Nigeria.
Dachomo clarified that fleeing the nation for safety would entail deserting his church’s adherents as well as others who are in danger.
According to the preacher, he decided to stay in Nigeria in order to continue helping Christians who, in his opinion, are being persecuted in some sections of Plateau State and other parts of the country.
Additionally, Dachomo claimed that as threats rose, so did the strain on him.
He pointed out that in addition to coming from alleged extremists, the warnings contained oblique warnings that increased the tension.
He insisted that he had no intention of moving abroad, despite his anxiety of the threats.
He claimed that because he feels it is his responsibility to support his community, the thought of applying for asylum has never appealed to him.
The cleric clarified that leaving Nigeria would entail severing ties with the individuals he has been advocating for over the years. Despite the hazards, he added, he would rather stay with them.
Dachomo further revealed that a number of close friends, family members, and church officials had counseled him to accept the asylum offers in order to ensure his safety.
He claimed that because he feels accountable to the people he serves, he did not think of leaving.
He declared that he is still dedicated to his profession and plans to keep discussing the difficulties that Christians in Plateau State and throughout Nigeria face.

I will keep standing with Christians who are persecuted in the Plateau and throughout Nigeria.
