Omoyele Sowore, a human rights campaigner, has revealed why he did not attend the Department of State Services (DSS) court hearing.
Speaking on Friday via his 𝕏 account, Sowore asserted that the court hearing’s trial date was purposefully set on the day of the scheduled protest in Aba to keep him from going to the demonstration.
He claims that the judge presiding over the case was not present when he and his legal team arrived to the Federal High Court on March 5, 2026.
“The judge was not present when we arrived at the Federal High Court on March 5, 2026, and his registrar set March 24 as the next date,” he wrote.
He continued by saying that differences then developed between the parties to the case, prompting his attorneys to formally request a new hearing date.
“Our lawyers wrote to request a new date because the parties couldn’t agree,” Sowore said.
The activist asserted, however, that after the DSS purportedly discovered that he intended to fly to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu rally, things changed.
“To prevent me from attending the historic rally, the hearing was abruptly scheduled for the same day as soon as the DSS learned we were traveling to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest,” he claimed.
The new hearing date was clearly intended, according to Sowore, who characterized the change as intentional.
He wrote, “The games are obvious.”
The activist maintained that the fight will go on in spite of the circumstances.
“An idea whose time has come cannot be defeated,” he continued.
