Following recent terrorist assaults in the region, President Bola Tinubu has ordered Nigeria’s security officials to move to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to assume control of the security situation.
Additionally, Tinubu promised that his administration would step up efforts to combat criminal organizations that operate throughout the nation.
Tinubu called the most recent events in Maiduguri extremely concerning in a statement he released in Abuja on Tuesday.
He sympathized with the injured, offered condolences to the families of the deceased, and reassured the state’s citizens that the federal government will support them during this trying time.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that these acts of terror are the last desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instill and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theaters,” Tinubu stated.
“No matter where they may be, we will keep stepping up our efforts to combat all criminal forces.
“I must praise the bravery and tenacity of our patriotic soldiers who successfully thwarted these terrorists’ coordinated attacks on state military installations.”
The President voiced confidence in security forces’ capacity to handle the threat while characterizing Monday’s attacks as desperate acts by terrorist organizations.
“The terrorist organizations with malicious intent committed desperate acts on Monday. He declared, “Our brave military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.”
Tinubu also revealed that, after a security conference with chiefs of intelligence and defense organizations, he had just authorized more operational support and equipment for security services.
“This effort is already in progress,” he said. In order to take control of the situation, I have also instructed security leaders to relocate to Maiduguri. Additionally, I have instructed the emergency services to treat the injured appropriately.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s anti-terrorism stance, saying that terrorist organizations will not find a safe harbor anywhere in the nation.
“Terrorists will never be safe in Nigeria. We’ll find them, face them, and destroy them. He declared, “Nigeria will not give in to fear.”
The order came after new security events in Maiduguri on Monday night, when explosions happened close to a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and around the well-known Monday Market.
The explosions were thought to have killed an unknown number of individuals and injured dozens more.
According to reports, the explosions happened at 7:02 p.m., just hours after three military formations in various sections of Borno State were the target of coordinated attacks by alleged Boko Haram fighters.
Mohammed Kafaran, the state’s Federal Fire Service Head of Operations, confirmed the event and stated that agency officials were sent to the location to help with emergency response efforts.
