Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum has reaffirmed his support for Vice President Kashim Shettima, encouraging citizens to pray for a worthy successor ahead of the 2027 political transition.
The governor reportedly made the appeal during a statewide address, in which he also asked for forgiveness for any failings in his administration.
Zulum asked the people of the state for understanding while emphasizing his commitment to protecting lives and property.
He sympathized with victims of insecurity, pointing out that their resistance remains the state’s backbone.
The governor emphasized that communal prayers and togetherness were critical in conquering the state’s issues.
As political activities gain speed, Zulum urged lawmakers against doing steps that could jeopardize the state’s delicate calm.
Zulum stated, “My dear compatriots, as the political season progresses, tensions may rise. However, we must balance our political interests with the harsh reality of our security situation.
“Let us not allow politics to undermine the hard-earned peace we have built.”
He advised candidates and supporters to put the interest of Borno State ahead of personal ambitions.
The governor restated his commitment to Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasizing that his loyalty is unwavering.
“Since taking office in 2019, I have been fair, just, and inclusive in my interactions with the entire political class.” “My loyalty to His Excellency, the Vice President, cannot be overstated,” Zulum stated.
He noted that he has maintained trust with political stakeholders at both the state and national levels.
“I have never betrayed the trust of members of the national and state assemblies, as well as political office holders of Borno extraction,” according to him.
Zulum also issued a harsh warning to those assisting insurgents, stating that anyone providing support to criminal elements will face prosecution.
He stated that such collaborators, whether providing information, shelter, or logistics, will be found, tracked, and prosecuted.
The governor praised President Bola Tinubu for allocating cash to help the Multinational Joint Task Force and other military operations.
He hailed the action as crucial to continuing the fight against the insurgents.
Zulum also thanked Vice President Shettima for representing the President on a recent sympathy visit to the state.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Zulum advised locals to be united and pray as the state prepares for new leadership.
