Following the security operation that resulted in the arrest of infamous Abia-born kidnap kingpin Obioma Nwankwo, commonly known as “Osisikankwu,” in Aba in 2010, the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, honored Staff Sergeant Amoke Gunshot Simeon.
Before Amoke led an operation that put a stop to his rule, “Osisikankwu” was the leader of an infamous abduction gang that terrorized Aba and the neighboring environs between 2008 and 2010.
Amoke, a Nigerian Army member, was instrumental in locating and capturing Osisikankwu, the gang leader, and reestablishing state security.
During a visit to the soldier at his rural residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Council, Governor Otti promised to pay for Amoke’s medical care abroad in order to guarantee his recuperation and return to good health.
After Otti’s visit, Amoke spoke to reporters about his mission in Abia and explained that his team’s job was to find criminals and kidnappers in order to bring about peace.
He added that “Osisikankwu” even offered him ₦50 million in exchange for allowing him to carry out his illegal activities, but he turned it down.
He continued by saying that he had gained respect and recognition for his integrity and dedication to duty.
“I was on general patrol throughout Abia State, covering areas from Ngwa High School to Asa, Onicha Ngwa, and Ikot Ekpene,” he stated. The people of Abia State were happy that I turned down the bribe.
“A good job pays well.” I am honored and appreciative of Governor Otti’s support and memory of me today.
Amoke also described his experience after suffering severe leg injuries in a car accident in the Northeast while still on active duty.
He thanked Governor Otti for the assistance and the assurance of treatment overseas.
“It was actually an accident while on duty in the Northeast, and the initial treatment did not help,” he continued. The fact that Governor Otti honors those who battled for Abia State makes me very glad. Other military members will be inspired to serve with diligence by his backing.
