Bisola Aiyeola, a Nigerian reality personality and actress, has talked candidly about her early mental challenges as a single mother.
The movie star revealed in an open interview with Tope Olowoniyan that she was traumatized to learn that she would have an unmarried child because her mother was also a single mother.
Aiyeola remembers feeling embarrassed and afraid that her own daughter would follow in the footsteps of her family.
“Being pregnant and having an unwed child made me feel afraid and embarrassed. Since I was engaged at the time, I assumed I would get married, but we never did.
“It was really embarrassing because my mother was a single mother and I am going to become one, and I was afraid my child might suffer the same fate,” she recounted.
The actress added that she struggled to breastfeed her daughter after she was born because she couldn’t realize it was her reality at the time, and that her family’s financial situation at the time made the idea of having a baby intolerable for her.
The 40-year-old said that despite the circumstances surrounding her birth, she eventually came to accept her fate and value her daughter more.
Looking back, she added, she was thankful for her daughter and all the things she had learned.
