Traditional leaders are the closest contact between the government and the people, according to President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Friday in Lagos at the presentation of His Royal Highness Oba (Dr) Samuel Olu Falae’s autobiography, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Tinubu called on monarchs to act as peacebuilding agents.

Traditional institutions are still essential to government, according to the president, who was represented at the event by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“The closest connection between the government and the people is our royal fathers.

“Your palaces must continue to be centers of moral guidance, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding,” Tinubu declared.

The president assigned the traditional leaders the responsibility of aggressively addressing the nation’s security issues and fostering harmony among various communities.

Beyond their ceremonial responsibilities, he argued, royal fathers must act as stabilizing forces in their realms, using their power to promote harmony and bolster societal cohesiveness.

“Peace and security are collective responsibilities, not just the government’s,” Tinubu stated.

Additionally, he urged kings to foster communication, deter violence, and improve unity among their realms.

The President characterized the gathering, which drew political figures, traditional leaders, and members of the diplomatic community, as a reflection on Oba Falae’s leadership, service, and national ethos rather than just a formal book launch.

In addition to praising Oba Falae’s legacy in public service, economic management, and cultural leadership, he regarded him as a link between tradition and contemporary government.

Falae’s career, from his stewardship as finance minister to his current position as the Olu-Abo of Ilu-Abo in Ondo State, was described by Tinubu as a unique combination of traditional authority and technical discipline.
