In order to ensure a peaceful and secure Easter celebration, the Civic Center for National Security has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to maintain increased vigilance and a strong security deployment throughout the nation.
Stressing that constant presence and continuous engagement are essential to long-term success, the center tasked the military with replicating the victories achieved against terrorists and bandits in the North to other federation states.
It stated that, considering the complexity and dynamic nature of Nigeria’s security issues, the Nigerian Armed Forces should be commended for continuing to put pressure on criminal elements despite the country’s ongoing insecurity.
The committee said that armed groups’ operational capacity has been weakened by persistent offensives that target criminal enclaves, as well as by greater surveillance and quick deployment capabilities.
However, it stated that in order to avoid a return to widespread chaos, the existing campaign against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements must be strengthened and maintained.
The center added, “We urge the military to sustain and intensify its efforts to ensure that Nigerians across all regions can observe the forthcoming Easter season in peace and safety,” in a statement released on Thursday night and signed by Dr. Johnson Audu, Executive Director.
“Replicating and expanding current security improvements nationally must be the goal.”
It urged Nigerians in general and those living in the North Central region in particular to stay alert, provide reliable information to security services, and oppose any kind of cooperation with criminal organizations.
The appeal comes in the wake of fresh criminal assaults on neighborhoods prior to Easter.
“Security is a shared responsibility,” the statement read. The public must actively assist the armed forces by being watchful, working together, and rejecting all forms of criminality. A coordinated national effort is needed to combat insecurity, according to Dr. Audu.
It also pushed local institutions, civil society organizations, and community leaders to increase grassroots involvement and foster a climate of harmony and accountability.
It emphasized that maintaining recent victories and averting a return to violence depend heavily on public confidence in the military.
