Rabi Umar, the chief judge of Bauchi State, swore in recently appointed Sharia Court justices, tasking them with administering justice with honesty, objectivity, and a strong sense of accountability.
The oath-taking ceremony took place on Wednesday in Bauchi at the grounds of High Court No. 1.
Judge Umar urged judges to carry out their duty without fear or favor, saying that the judiciary is still the last hope for the average person.
Umar also emphasized the importance of justice, thoroughness, and strict respect to the law, pointing out that judicial officials’ actions have a significant impact on the public’s trust in the judiciary.
She advised the judges not to issue orders that are outside of their authority, especially ones that prevent security agencies from doing their legal obligations.
Any misbehavior would not be accepted, she said.
The Chief Judge emphasized the significance of professionalism, ethical behavior, and ongoing education.
After a thorough screening procedure, she asked the judges to defend the trust placed in them.
According to Umar, a variety of civil cases are anticipated to be handled by the recently appointed justices.
According to her, “they will also handle disputes relating to land, family, and commercial issues within their jurisdictions, thereby strengthening justice delivery at the grassroots level.”
The CJ also praised the appointment committee and members of the Judicial Service Commission for their diligence and openness during the selection process.
On behalf of the appointees, Mr. Muhammad Salihu thanked them for the chance to serve.
He promised that the judges will carry out their responsibilities with integrity and commitment.
