Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has given the families of the three military soldiers who were killed in recent attacks in the state N150 million.
As part of Governor Zulum’s ongoing support for the families of fallen heroes and those injured in action during counter-insurgency operations throughout the state, the gift was given on behalf of the state government.
The governor offered support to families of volunteers killed in action, including scholarship programs for their orphaned children, in addition to military and security personnel.
Governor Zulum visited the families of the late Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, Lieutenant Colonel Salihu Iliyasu, and Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko yesterday in an attempt to personally connect with the grieving relatives.
The governor first paid a visit to the late Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu’s family in Abuja, where Na’ima and Rakiya, the deceased’s wives, welcomed him. He honored the officer’s service to the country and offered his condolences.
“I would want to offer the departed family my sincere condolences on behalf of the Borno State government and people. The late Iliyasu was a devoted national servant whose efforts would never be forgotten, according to Zulum. After that, he gave the family a N50 million check.
Governor Zulum then traveled to Niger and Kano States, where he gave the families of late Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko and late Lt. Col. Umar Farouq checks totaling N50 million each.
In the ongoing counterinsurgency operations, he praised the fallen commanding officers for their bravery, patriotism, and sacrifices.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the families of officers and men who paid the ultimate price in defense of the country by announcing intentions to visit the families of other officers who were killed or reported missing in action during the ongoing military operations.
In addition, he prayed for the deceased’s souls to rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and for God to give their families the resilience to deal with the irreversible loss.
Dr. Aminu Chiroma, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, Kaka Shettima, senior stateman Dr. Musa Inuwa Kubo, and Permanent Secretary of Government House Mustapha Ali Busguma accompanied the governor on his visit.
