Mr. Peter Obi, the leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has expressed new worries about Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, saying that the nation is “bleeding” due to ongoing attacks and deaths in a number of states.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Obi bemoaned the ongoing wave of killings and violence in spite of the president’s promises.
He went on to criticize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the deteriorating security situation in the nation, claiming that new assaults in a number of states have already contradicted the President’s previous pledge that killings would not happen again.
Obi claims that “another deadly attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel community in Jos South Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of several residents, less than 24 hours after Tinubu visited Jos, Plateau State, on April 2, 2026, and assured grieving citizens that this experience will not repeat itself.”
He added that violence continued to spread to other regions of the nation within a week after the President’s pledge.
The former governor of Anambra State pointed out that Nasarawa State was also in mourning following gunmen’s attacks on the Akyawa and Udege Kasa towns, which resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, the evacuation of locals, the burning of several homes, and the declaration of numerous missing persons.
Obi also cited claims from Zamfara State, where over 150 persons were reportedly kidnapped in what he called “one of the largest recent mass kidnappings” from Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji towns.
He continued by saying that terrorists allegedly stormed Chibok in Borno State that same day, burning houses and killing four police officers.
The former presidential candidate also denounced the violence that occurred in Benue State on Easter Sunday, with over 17 persons reportedly killed and numerous others still missing.
Obi went on to say that another attack took place in Kaduna State, where several worshippers were slaughtered inside churches and others were kidnapped in the Kachia Local Government Area’s Ariko community.
Nigerians are paying the price with their lives, according to Obi, who described the situation as a leadership failure.
However, we were informed that this would not happen again. Sadly, Nigerians are losing their lives as a result of this lack of accountability and leadership, he said.
The ongoing attacks, he continued, demonstrate that the culprits are emboldened by what he called “government inaction.”
He warns that the ongoing deaths throughout the nation indicate a national emergency and asserts that protecting people and property is still the primary duty of any government.
In closing, Obi declared that Nigeria is “bleeding” and demanded swift and decisive action to deal with the escalating security situation.
