Nigeria’s crude oil production has significantly increased, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), which attributes this improvement to the installation of an integrated energy security system for pipelines throughout the Niger Delta.
The corporation claims that national crude oil output has increased to an average of 1.71 million barrels per day, with a high production of 1.84 million barrels per day recorded in 2025, after falling to a historic low of 960,000 barrels per day in 2022.
During the Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipelines Security on Wednesday at the National Assembly Complex, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., revealed this news.
Ojulari stressed that the progress noted was intentional rather than accidental in a news release released by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh. He clarified that it resulted from the application of a thorough “integrated energy security model.”
He pointed out that the paradigm includes kinetic response capabilities, regulatory oversight, industry collaboration, legislative and executive policy alignment, actionable information collecting, and surveillance technologies integrated into host communities.
Ojulari went on to say that the successful containment of oil theft and widespread pipeline vandalism, two long-standing issues in the industry, was a major factor in the resurgence of crude oil output.
Additionally, he said, these initiatives have contributed to the restoration of investor trust in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, who was represented by Jimoh Ibrahim, urged for increased cooperation between pertinent agencies and stakeholders to remove persistent barriers to output development in his opening remarks.
at a same vein, participants at the forum were advised by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, represented by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, to critically evaluate the progress made thus far, with a focus on justice and fairness in the use of security measures.
The Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources organized the Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipelines Security.
The Senate President, the Speaker of the House, the National Security Advisor, the Minister of Defense, and leaders from important regulatory bodies for the oil industry were among the high-level attendees.
The Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and representatives of private security companies were among the security chiefs and stakeholders who attended the roundtable and gave presentations.
