The Edo State Government has given scholarships to three children of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who was killed by Boko Haram in Borno State.
According to reports, the late Brigadier General was from the state and was in charge of the 29 Task Force Brigade, which was based in Benisheik along the 132-kilometer Maiduguri-Damaturu road in Borno state.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the 29 Task Force in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing Brigadier Braimah and other military officers.
On April 15, 2026, they were laid to rest at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Senior military leaders, high-ranking government officials, and other representatives were there to honor the fallen personnel who died in counter-insurgency operations in the North-East sub-region.
Okpebholo said that the death of the military officer and others was sad. He said that the scholarship is both a moral duty and a sign of good government.
He said that Brigadier General Braimah’s death was a huge sacrifice for Nigeria.
He said that the people who would benefit were Farida Hussain-Braimah (18), a 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University in Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah (16), who is currently in SS3 at Olumawu Senior School in Abuja; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah (12), who is in JSS2 at Olumawu Junior Secondary School in Abuja.
The Governor also said that Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price for his service to the country and that it is only right for the government to support the family he left behind and make sure his children can continue their education without interruption.
He said again that the state government is committed to helping the kids with their education so that they can have stable and meaningful futures.
Okpebholo said that the scholarship program fits with the education part of his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which focuses on developing people, helping people, and making government more open to everyone.
He said that no child of an Edo hero should be denied the chance to do well. This is about being responsible, having honor, and making a conscious choice to invest in the future.
He did, however, ask other state governments and private sector stakeholders to follow suit by giving structured support—especially in education—to families of military personnel who die while on duty.
In the meantime, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said he would give N50 million to help the families of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and seven other officers and soldiers who had died.
Zulum said that the money was meant to help the families of the officers deal with the terrible loss.
