The International Organization for Migration and the Federal Government have worked together to help 181 Nigerians return from Tripoli, Libya, through the Assisted Voluntary Return program run by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The agency said this in a post on its X account on Tuesday. It said that the returnees were received by its Lagos Operations Office in partnership with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
The National Emergency Management Agency’s Lagos Operations Office, working with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, has received 181 Nigerian returnees from Tripoli, Libya. This is part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return program run by the International Organization for Migration in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The agency also said, “The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on April 27, 2026, at about 20:13 hours on an Air Buraq Airline flight with registration number 5A-BAB.”
It went on to say, “The returnees included 159 adults, 64 men and 95 women, 12 children, 5 boys and 7 girls, and 10 infants, 6 boys and 4 girls.”
The statement says that when they got there, officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service did biometric registration and paperwork to make sure that the records were correct and that the process of reintegration went smoothly.
The agency said that “in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of its citizens,” the returnees were given immediate humanitarian aid, such as food and clean water, medical care, ambulance services, luggage handling, logistics support, and counseling and coordination services.
It also said, “The reception exercise went well and in an orderly manner thanks to the good cooperation of all the relevant parties, which made sure that the returnees got the support services they needed.”
