Uche Nnaji, a former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, is purportedly being sought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) in connection with a purported certificate forgery scam.
The anti-graft organization has been looking into claims that Nnaji falsified his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and University of Nigeria, Nsukka degree certificates.
According to reports, the Senate and President Bola Tinubu received the credentials when he was confirmed as a minister in 2023.
In October of last year, Premium Times released the results of a two-year study that preceded the ICPC inquiry.
According to the study, the former minister falsified his NYSC and UNN degrees.
According to commission sources who talked with Premium Times, Nnaji might face legal action if the investigation revealed that the credentials were faked.
ICPC Looks Up Nnaji
According to trustworthy sources with knowledge of the situation, Nnaji’s reported refusal to accept invitations from the ICPC prompted the agency to seek for him.
ICPC’s questions on the ongoing investigation were answered by UNN management, according to an insider who begged not to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the subject.
The former minister has been invited to be questioned on several occasions, the source continued.
The source claims that Nnaji was invited to scheduled interrogations by the commission by WhatsApp, email, and phone calls, but he did not show up.
The insider stated, “The ICPC is searching everywhere for him in order to possibly arrest him, and if we can’t find him, we will most likely declare him wanted.”
According to a different source, Nnaji’s decision to decline the invitations was part of a plan to stay unavailable in order to run for the Enugu State governorship in 2027.
According to the source, if the former minister won the election, he would be granted protection from criminal prosecution.
Nnaji reportedly quietly switched from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his unsuccessful run on the APC platform for the Enugu governorship in 2023.
Ahead of the 2027 general election, Nnaji reportedly surfaced in late May as the governorship candidate of a PDP group supported by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
Additionally, it was believed that he was considering running for governor, in order to benefit from protection from prosecution.
Whether the ICPC will declare the former minister sought has not yet been made public.
