The United States Mission has urged Nigerians to abide by the US immigration laws on their stay in the country.
The directive was issued by the Commission in a statement shared on its 𝕏 handle and was reported.
It appealed to applicants to stay for the authorised period only, to keep their documents updated and avoid any actions that could jeopardise their eligibility for future entry into the United States.
The mission said that it is important to follow visa conditions to protect future study and travel opportunities.
It emphasized that following the rules was not only the right thing to do but also a protection for the individual’s chances of traveling.
“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do, it also protects your future and keeps opportunities open for travelers from Nigeria,” the post read.
The reminder followed a continuing US effort to curb visa overstays and maintain the integrity of its immigration system.
The embassy has urged Nigerians travelling to study, work or visit to always honour the conditions attached to their visas.
“Whether you’re here in the U.S. to study, work or visit, always abide by the terms of your visa. The rules must be followed. Stay only as long as you are authorized to. Keep your papers current. “Make choices that protect your dreams,” the mission said.
