The Federal Government has arraigned three men before the Federal High Court in Abuja over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The defendants, identified as Abdulrazak Umar (also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid), Yunusa Musa (also known as Yunusa bin Musa), and Shamsu Adamu Sani (also known as Abu Itisar), were brought before the court on Friday after being arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The trio is facing a 10-count charge involving alleged terrorism, kidnapping, concealment of information, incitement to terrorism, and illegal mining.
According to court documents, the suspects allegedly conspired with three other individuals—Muhammad Sani, Jibril Mohammed, and Ibrahim Khabab—to carry out the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State between January and May 2026.
The prosecution stated that the alleged conspiracy violates Section 26(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The Federal Government further alleged that the defendants knowingly assisted in the execution of the abduction and intentionally withheld information about the identities and activities of those behind the operation despite having prior knowledge of the plot.
Prosecutors also accused the suspects of professing membership of Darul Salam, an organisation described in the charge as an affiliate of the banned terrorist group Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan (Ansaru).
The charges further alleged that Abdulrazak Umar played a significant role in the group’s operations by providing operational guidance and training to members while using a WhatsApp platform titled “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to encourage terrorist activities.
In addition to the terrorism-related allegations, Umar was also accused of unlawfully mining gold in streams located in the Chaza area of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State between 2024 and 2026, contrary to the provisions of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
The Federal Government is expected to present evidence during the trial, while the court will determine the guilt or innocence of the defendants based on the evidence presented.
