Lagos Court Arraigns Husband, Wife Over Alleged Attack, Intimidation and Threats Against Journalist

The Ogba Magistrate Court sitting in the Ikeja Magisterial District has arraigned Stella Olufemi Shodimu (also known as Stella Omonigho Eromosele) and her husband, Olufemi Shodimu, over alleged offences ranging from assault and criminal damage to conspiracy, threats of violence and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace against journalist Princess Aladegoroye.
The couple was brought before the court on Thursday, July 16, 2026, following charges filed by the Commissioner of Police in connection with a series of incidents alleged to have occurred between March and August 2024 in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the charge sheet, the prosecution alleged that the defendants assaulted the journalist in March 2024 at No. 16 Adeojo Street, Wemabod Estate, Ikeja, inflicting injuries on different parts of her body with a screwdriver and nails. The alleged offence is said to be contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The prosecution also accused the couple of intentionally damaging the complainant’s vehicle on August 10, 2024, by destroying its windscreen wiper and deflating one of its tyres with a knife, contrary to Section 305 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
In a separate charge, Stella Shodimu was accused of conspiring with persons who are still at large to threaten violence against the journalist. She was also charged with allegedly threatening to “deal with” Princess Aladegoroye and conducting herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by displaying the journalist’s photograph while making inquiries about her whereabouts.
The prosecution further alleged that Stella Shodimu, accompanied by unidentified men, visited the journalist’s office in an alleged attempt to abduct her. Court documents stated that she allegedly showed the complainant’s photograph and details of her vehicle to the security guard at the entrance of the premises, while the unidentified men reportedly waited outside.
According to the prosecution, the alleged plot was foiled after security personnel quickly intervened, preventing the situation from escalating.
The case has drawn public attention because it involves allegations of intimidation and violence against a journalist. Media rights advocates have continued to call for greater protection for journalists and for all allegations of attacks against members of the press to be diligently investigated and prosecuted through due process.
The defendants appeared before the court to answer the charges.
As required by law, Stella Olufemi Shodimu and Olufemi Shodimu are presumed innocent unless and until the allegations against them are proved beyond reasonable doubt by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned for further hearing.
