Ameh Ebute, the former Senate president, recently declared his intention to succeed Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the former national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who resigned from office a few days ago, according to news that was recently published by the VANGUARD NEWSPAPER online.
According to reports, Senator Ebute said in a statement released on Thursday night that he was willing to make the same sacrifice that he had made with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the height of Nigeria’s military rule.
In his statement, he claimed that he had advanced in politics by taking part in Nigeria’s experimental presidential system in 1979, when he was elected to the Senate to represent the good people of Benue South Senatorial District. He also claimed that he had served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations from 1980 to 1983 and that he had been re-elected to the Senate in 1992, when he was named.
“My democratic experiences in restoring democracy included reconvening the Senate in Lagos State in 1994, in the face of a military invasion, by requesting that General Sani Abacha cede control to Alhaji Moshood Abiola, the nation’s democratically elected President,” the man said.
He said that as a result, he and Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, the current president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, were both taken into custody and charged with and prosecuted for treasonable felonies by the administration of General Sani Abacha.

He said, “In 1994, when Tinubu and I were in Alagbon jail and were about to be killed, it was one thing that spared us. For more than 50 days, we stayed at Alagbon. However, General Sani Abacha’s death just before our execution was scheduled to happen rescued us.
