Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Thursday, adjourned a hearing on the FCT minister’s motion to restrict participants of the hunger protest until September 4.
The adjournment follows the claimant’s counsel, Moses Ebute, serving the motion on notice to the respondents.
During the hearing, counsel for the 1st to 4th respondents, Dr. S.M. Oyeghe, requested that the motion be served on them in court, while other respondents were absent and unrepresented.
Justice Oriji directed the claimant’s counsel to serve all respondents, ensuring that everyone is properly informed and represented.

The suit involves prominent individuals, including Omoyele Sowore, Damilare Adenola, and others, as well as security chiefs, such as the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Department of State Services, and the Chief of Army Staff, among others.
In his July 31 ruling, Justice Oriji recognized the protesters’ rights to embark on the hunger protest but restricted them to the stadium due to genuine fears expressed by the minister regarding potential disruptions to public order and safety.
The court aimed to balance the protesters’ rights with the need to protect citizens’ movement and prevent damage to public facilities.
The adjournment until September 4 allows for all respondents to be properly served and prepared for the hearing, ensuring a fair and comprehensive consideration of the motion.
