Social media app, X (formerly Twitter) has resumed operations in Brazil following months-long conflict with authorities in the South American country.
X owned by American businessman, Elon Musk has paid fines of 28 million reais ($5.1 million; £3.8 million) and agreed to appoint a local agent by Brazilian legislation.
Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Brazilian Supreme Court made the decision, declaring, “I authorise the immediate return of X’s activities,” following the corporation’s payment of millions of dollars in fines for disobeying many court orders.

Recall that Moraes blocked access to the social media application after it refused to remove numerous profiles that the authorities believed to be spreading false information about the last 2022 Brazilian presidential election.
While confirming the lifting of the ban, X in a post shared on social media promised to continue to defend freedom of speech, within the boundaries of the law, everywhere they operate.
“X is proud to return to Brazil,” the company wrote in a post on X from its global government affairs account. “Giving tens of millions of Brazilians access to our indispensable platform was paramount throughout this entire process. We will continue to defend freedom of speech, within the boundaries of the law, everywhere we operate.”
