Ibrahim Idoko, the national vice-chairman of the Labour Party’s North-Central, has blasted Yunusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the “Obidient Movement,” for allegedly saying that the movement is larger than the LP.
According to reports, Tanko said in an interview with Arise News in Abuja on Tuesday that the Obidient Movement is larger than LP and will look for alternatives to serve Nigerians if the political party opposes accountability and good government.

But in a statement issued to reporters on Wednesday, Idoko rejected Tanko’s remarks, calling him a political opportunist attempting to appease his bosses.

He added that Tanko and his fellow travelers are naughty and that the LP had been winning elections and making strides without the Obidient Movement for many years.

This, coming from a former national chairman of a deregistered political party, is, to put it mildly, absurd, the statement said. Tanko and his supporters should be given a quick overview of the Labour Party’s achievements prior to the emergence of the Obidient Movement.

Tanko and his fellow travelers are clearly either living in denial or are incredibly ignorant; in any case, they are simply being naughty.

Long before this, the Labour Party was winning elections all over Nigeria. Just so you know, the present governor of Abia State, His Excellency Alex Otti, was not the first governor chosen on the Labour Party’s platform.

The previous governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Olusegun Mimiko, served two terms in office. Additionally, the party has representatives in the House of Assembly and National Assembly in a number of states.

Notably, prominent politicians like Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Delta State, Senator Joshua Dariye of Plateau State, and Hon. Samuel Godday of Benue State were elected on the platform of the Labour Party.

Tanko is merely being cheeky and trying to get his paymasters to notice him. So be it, Tanko and his supporters may decide to choose a different route than the LP in 2027. We don’t hold grudges, but we are sure that the Labour Party will only get stronger under Barr. Julius Abure’s leadership and the current National Working Committee, and that the LP will win the 2027 elections.
