State governments across have been urged by the federal government to improve the capabilities of their information ministries in order to promote accountability, openness, and public confidence.
At the 48th Meeting of the National Council of Information and National Orientation on Friday in Kaduna, Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and national orientation, made the call.
Members of the nation’s information and public communication ecosystem, including commissioners and permanent secretaries, attended the conference.
This year’s council meeting was organized by the ministry with the topic “Enhancing Public Information Management for Inclusive Governance: The Renewed Hope Agenda in Focus.”
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state was thanked by Mr. Idris for his kind hospitality and steadfast support of all attendees.
He said this is evidence of the state’s crucial position as a lighthouse of inclusivity and advancement in the nation’s growth.
The meeting’s focus, according to the minister, emphasized the vital role that public information plays in bridging the gap between the goals of the Nigerian people and government policy.
He went on to say that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was centered around this kind of role.
The minister went on to say that the fundamental function of government is to inspire group action, foster connections, and facilitate communication.
Information management, Mr. Idris continued, is essential to democracy and progress and is not just a tool of administration.
He went on to praise everyone in the meeting for their dedication to furthering this crucial cause.
According to Mr. Idris, Nigeria’s distinct variety presents both opportunities and difficulties.
Because there are many different ethnic groups, dialects, and religions, it takes conscious work, particularly from information managers, to make sure that every citizen feels heard, informed, and engaged in the government process.

President Tinubu has made a strong case for people-oriented governance and transformational leadership at all levels in his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Agenda is based on the well-established idea that inclusive, open, and goal-oriented governance is essential to enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.
“At this point, I would like to strongly urge some of our state governments, particularly regarding the situation and functions of State Ministries of Information.”
He claimed that it is impossible to overestimate the importance of information ministers at the federal and state levels in the constantly expanding realm of governance.
“Transparency, accountability, and trust are vital pillars of any flourishing democracy, and these Ministries act as the link between government policies and the citizens they are intended to serve,” Mr. Idris stated.
