An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro in Ilorin, Kwara State, has dissolved a 10-year-old Islamic marriage between Rasheedat Abeje and Suleiman Adeyi, both of Okelele Area of the city.
The judge, Idris Etsu, gave the ruling after the court’s bailiff deposed to an affidavit on the agreement by Suleiman for the marriage to be dissolved.
“The bailiff said he called Suleiman on phone and he said he was no longer interested in their marriage,” Etsu said.
He then ordered that Rasheedat should observe the three-month “iddah” (waiting) period before she remarries.
Also, the judge granted the woman custody of the only child in the marriage.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Rasheedat earlier filed for divorce on the grounds of lack of love, affection and care by her husband.
She also asked for custody of their child and maintenance fees of N20,000 monthly.
Rasheedat told the court that her husband was not responsible and did not care for her and the child.
She also agreed to take full responsibility for the child.
