The Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to working with the UN to offer sustainable solutions that will assist in bringing millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, made this revelation on Friday while answering questions from reporters in Abuja.
Shortly after meeting with Deputy UN Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, he revealed it.
According to Yilwatda, the UN has been a longtime ally of the ministry and has assisted the government in putting some of its social intervention programs into action.
In order to advance the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which addresses young unemployment, poverty alleviation, and assistance for victims of conflict and climate change, the alliance became essential, according to the minister.
“The UN and we have the chance to work together to support those impacted by armed conflicts, insurgency, and climate change throughout the nation.
In particular, those who will be impacted by the economic reforms we are implementing to make sure that we give each component of the reforms a human face.
“We will provide long-lasting solutions to our people’s predicament thanks to our alliance.
“It will guarantee that we help as many people escape poverty, lower youth unemployment, and make sure our communities are safe,” he stated.
The ministry would shortly unveil its 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan, Yilwatda said, to give Nigerians a roadmap for the government’s efforts to combat poverty in the nation.
In the next weeks, we will present our Humanitarian Response Plan, which will conduct a needs assessment of all the humanitarian issues and challenges that the nation faces.
Together with the UN, we will use that Humanitarian Response Plan to gather money for the nation all around the world.
Additionally, the Durable Solution Plan and program we are working on will go into force during the first quarter of the year.If you look at the planned 2025 Budget, you’ll see that there is a significant amount of funds allocated for safety nets. I’m confident that Mr. President, who is willing to assure poverty reduction, has made significant contributions to the safety net.
“The government has also demonstrated plans to ensure that they work with the UN to reduce poverty and provide a safety net for the poorest of the poor,” he said.
The ministry’s goal, according to Yilwatda, is to generate at least two million jobs by the end of 2025.

In her reply, the UN Deputy Secretary-General gave the federal government her word that she would be willing to work with them to address the nation’s multifaceted poverty.
According to Mohammed, the ministry is essential to the UN’s effort to guarantee community safety and economic advancement.
These days, people are moving due to various crises, the climate, conflicts, and internal displacement brought on by many adversities.
Thus, this ministry serves as a central location for preventative and humanitarian crisis resolution.
Indicators of poverty are high throughout the nation.
In order to avoid having to deal with those who are causing social unrest, she stated that it is necessary to make accommodations for host communities as well.
Mohammed emphasized the necessity of increasing funding for social intervention in order to meet the nation’s expanding humanitarian needs.
She stated, “The country needs a lot of investment so that we can have those transitions that will make us more resilient.”
